One of the most important events a Christian experiences is to be confirmed as an active, participating member of the Church. At Confirmation, a young person personally confirms the vows taken years ago by the parents at his or her baptism. At Confirmation, a young Presbyterian becomes a full-fledged voting member of the church, announcing his or her faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. If the young person is not previously baptized, baptism occurs on Confirmation Sunday.
The 2024 Confirmation Class at Bellevue Presbyterian Church will begin on Sunday morning August 11th and extend for approximately eight consecutive Sundays (but skipping 9/1 and 10/6). Classes will meet during Sunday School from 9:30-10:15 am. Classes will take place in Fellowship Hall at church and focus on eight different vital components to our Christian faith and heritage. On the last Sunday, likely October 27th, we will have Confirmation Sunday at worship, where those ready to publicly profess their faith are welcomed into full church membership. I will be the teacher throughout the process.
Outside the classroom environment, you will also be paired with an adult mentor in our church. You two will then get together outside class to do such things as talk about faith, read through a Gospel, do a service project, and simply become acquainted, or better yet, close friends. Mentors will be assigned by me from among the willing adults in our church. If you have a special request for a mentor, please let me know right away.
All Bellevue youth in 5th grade or older who have not been previously confirmed are invited and encouraged to participate. So if you feel ready to publicly profess your faith in Jesus Christ – or if you simply want to explore further what faith profession and church membership really mean before making the decision – please make certain that you participate. If you sign up – and we hope you do – you will be expected to attend each class (occasional excused absences are fine).
